Like most shounen anime in general, Naruto also presents various filler stories as a distraction from the main storyline. Although filler stories tend to be boring, there are some interesting filler characters in Naruto's story.

1. Yakumo Kurama
Yakumo Kurama is a character that appears in the Yakumo Kurama Rescue Mission Arc. She was once a Kurenai's disciple who was very skilled in the use of genjutsu. However, its power was too dangerous so Kurenai sealed the power.
Yakumo felt so angry towards Kurenai that she planned to take revenge. However, that hatred slowly disappeared after she understood the reason behind Kurenai's actions.
2. Sora
Even though he only appears in filler stories, Sora is one of the most well-known characters in the Naruto Shippuden story. He is a unique shinobi in that he is able to use the Nine-Tails' chakra.
When the Kyubi rampaged through the village of Konoha, it left behind a large amount of chaka residue. Kazuma then took advantage of the leftover energy and sealed it into his son, Sora's body. This made Sora a pseudo jinchuriki of the Kyubi.
3. Guren
Unlike Sora, Guren is one of Orochimaru's loyal subordinates from Otogakure. She serves as an antagonist in the Three Tail's Appearance Arc. She was given the task of sealing the Three-Tails so that the creature would not fall into Konoha's hands.
One of the interesting things about Guren is that she has a kekkei genkai in the form of crystal release. She is able to perform various jutsu by manipulating crystal structures. In addition, she is also very strong.
4. Yukimaru
Yukimaru is a character in the spotlight in the Three Tail's Appearance Arc. She was one of Orochimaru's experimental subjects. She has the ability to control Sanbi.
Apart from that, Yukimaru has an innocent and childish nature. She also has a very close relationship with Guren. Even though they are not related by blood, they are very much like mother and son.
5. Sasame
Sasame is a member of the Fuuma clan from the Ta no Kuni region. The country was originally a peaceful country until Orochimaru took control of the area and turned it into Oto no Kuni.
Although her fighting ability is not shown, Sasame is described as a kind and caring girl. She asked for Naruto's help to defeat her father who was working as Orochimaru's subordinate.
6. Natsuhi
Natsuhi is one of the strongest ninja from Hoshigakure. She is capable of using an interesting jutsu named Kujaku Myōhō. Despite this, she started to rebel against Akahoshi who served as the Third Hoshikage.
Natsuhi felt angry at Akahoshi's cruel actions towards the ninja in Hoshigakure. She also fought with Naruto and her friends. Their combination was finally able to stop Akahoshi's ambitions.
7. Hotaru
Hotaru is a beautiful kunoichi who is very close to Utakata. She first appeared in the Six-Tails Unleashed Arc. She has a very strong determination to continue the legacy of her clan.
Hotaru also trained with Utakata. She admired Utakata so much that she always accompanied Utakata on his adventures. She was kidnapped by an enemy named Shiragami, but she was saved by Utakata with Naruto's help.
8. Hanare
Behind her gentle face, Hanare is a dangerous spy from Sora no Kuni. She has the ability to erase all of her memories so she can become the perfect spy.
Even so, the unique Hanare still has one memory left behind. She has a strong desire to meet Kakashi. Their relationship may have been brief, but it was worth watching.
9. Chen
Chen is known as a very legendary taijutsu master from Konoha. He was resurrected by Kabuto as an edo-tensei ninja in the Fourth Shinobi World War. He was involved in a very fierce conflict against Rock Lee.
In the past, Chen had a student who was very skilled at using taijutsu. He felt very sorry that he let his apprentice get killed in the Third Ninja World War.
10. Shira
Shira is quite an interesting character in the story In Naruto's Footsteps: The Friends' Paths Arc. He has a very similar background to Rock Lee. He couldn't use ninjutsu and only focused on using taijutsu.
Shira is often underestimated by her colleagues. However, he didn't give up and kept practicing until he got Gaara interested. He was also able to enter the Ninja Academy thanks to a recommendation from the Kazekage.
