Pon no Michi is a slice of life anime that tells the story of a group of cute girls who love playing mahjong. While they spend their time playing mahjong, they enjoy engaging in hilarious moments.
In this article, we'll discuss about all main characters in Pon no Michi. Who are they? Check out the full review below!
1. Nashiko Jippensha
Nashiko Jippensha is a super active and energetic girl. After being kicked out of the house by her mother, she looks for a suitable hangout spot with her friends. Coincidentally, her father owns a jansou, or mahjong parlor, which has since closed.
Nashiko initially only wants to use the jansou as a hangout. She doesn't know anything about mahjong. However, she soon becomes interested in playing mahjong with her friends.
2. Pai Kawahigashi
Next, there's Nashiko's best friend, Pai Kawahigashi. She has a gentle personality and a very feminine appearance. Despite being a beginner, she is enthusiastic about playing mahjong.
Pai also has impressive cooking skills. She often makes food for her friends. She's also reliable in outdoor activities like picnics in the park, as her family loves to take her out.
3. Izumi Tokutomi
The next character is Izumi Tokutomi, who appears a bit of a tomboy. Compared to Nashiko or Pai, Izumi has a broader understanding of the world of mahjong. Because of this, she's quite adept at playing against her friends.
Izumi is terrified of oni masks because she had a bad experience as a child. This prevented her from participating in the festival held in her local town. However, she overcame this trauma with the help of Nashiko and her friends.
4. Riche Hayashi
Riche Hayashi is a huge mahjong fan. Her parents used to take her to play mahjong at Nashiko's father's jansou (a traditional Japanese mahjong parlor). Therefore, she was disappointed when she learned that the jansou had closed.
Riche's enthusiasm returns after meeting Nashiko and her friends, as she can play mahjong again. In keeping with her elegant appearance, Riche comes from a wealthy family and has excellent financial capabilities.
5. Haneru Emi
Haneru Emi is a girl from Hiroshima. She loves playing mahjong online. After being defeated by Riche in the game, she becomes interested in finding the jansou where Nashiko and her gang hang out.
Afterward, Haneru often spends time with them. However, it takes time for her to adapt to them because she has a shy and introverted personality.
6. Chonbo
The last main character is a mahjong spirit named Chonbo. He takes the form of a cute and adorable yellow sparrow. He can speak freely, but only Nashiko can hear him.
Chonbo's skill at mahjong is impressive. He occasionally joins in with Nashiko and her friends. However, he finds it difficult to move the mahjong pieces due to his physical limitations as a bird.
