In Bungo Stray Dogs, Yukichi Fukuzawa is the leader of the Armed Detective Agency. He is highly respected by his subordinates. He also possesses special abilities.
This time, we would like to discuss all about Yukichi Fukuzawa in more detail. Curious? Check out the full review below!
His Personality
As a leader, Fukuzawa possesses a very firm and authoritative nature. He always appears serious and rarely smiles. Despite this, he is also a gentle and sympathetic person.
Fukuzawa also cares deeply about the well-being of his subordinates. If any of his subordinates are threatened or in danger, he will call on all his teammates to step in and rescue them.
His Background
As a youth, Fukuzawa trained at a government-run martial arts dojo. While there, he developed a close friendship with the leader of the Hunting Dogs, Ōchi Fukuchi.
Fukuzawa was also once part of a group called Goken, consisting of five of the best swordsmen. They were tasked with assassinating anyone who opposed the government.
At some point, Fukuzawa felt that his actions were wrong. He began to hesitate about taking another person's life. Therefore, he decided to quit his job and become a professional bodyguard.
He Founded Armed Detective Agency
While working as a bodyguard, Fukuzawa met Ranpo Edogawa, who was wandering the streets at the time. He then offered Ranpo a job to help him solve a crime.
Fukuzawa also recognized Ranpo's genius as a detective. He initially thought Ranpo's genius was due to superhuman/special abilities. However, he later realized that Ranpo was indeed a natural genius without any superpowers.
After working with Ranpo, Fukuzawa decided to form the Armed Detective Agency. He enlisted the help of Sōsuke Natsume to facilitate the establishment of the organization.
Initially, the Armed Detectives consisted of only Fukuzawa and Ranpo. Over time, they gained additional members, including Akiko Yosano and Atsushi Nakajima.
He Has Long History with Ōgai Mori
Fukuzawa first met Ōgai Mori on Natsume's orders. From their first meeting, he recognized Mori's bloodlust and evil side. They then formed a partnership to protect Yokohama from enemy threats.
Despite their opposing views, they had barely clashed over the years. They also recognized each other's abilities, and their strengths were equal.
Their relationship became strained when Fukuzawa witnessed Mori cruelly exploiting Yosano's special abilities for unjustified purposes. He saved Yosano from Mori's cruel hands and recruited her as a member of the Armed Detectives.
During the cannibalism virus incident, Fukuzawa and Mori briefly fought each other. They fell into Fyodor's trap. However, they were both stopped by Natsume, who arrived just in time.
Despite their animosity, Fukuzawa sometimes sought help from Mori and the Port Mafia. An example was when the Armed Detectives were framed for terrorism and hunted by the Hunting Dogs.
Fighting Abilities
Fukuzawa possesses a special ability called "All Men Are Equal." This ability allows him to suppress the powers of those in the Armed Detectives. This ability makes it easier for them to control their powers.
An example is the case of Atsushi Nakajima. He initially lost control and was able to masterfully control his tiger powers. However, Fukuzawa's powers only activate after someone passes a test he created.
While this ability isn't particularly useful in combat, it's not a major issue because Fukuzawa is a skilled swordsman. Furthermore, he possesses a well-trained physique, allowing him to fight enemies fearlessly.
