Apart from relying on their Zanpakutō in battle, Shinigami can utilize a special ability or spell known as Kidō. The spells are created through Reiryoku or spiritual energy.
In general, Kidō is divided into two categories, namely Hadō which functions for offensive purposes and Bakudō which is useful for defense as well as support in battle. In addition, Kidō spells also have a certain code according to their power level.

15. Rikujōkōrō
Rikujōkōrō is one of the Kidō spells that functions to bind the enemy. The user of this spell will emit light through his forefinger. After that, he would summon six light energies that would restrain the opponent's body.
For example, Byakuya once cast this spell in a fierce battle against Ichigo. In addition, Rukia is also able to use this spell when she is dealing with members of the Espada.
14. Hyapporkan
Like the previous spells, Hyapporankan also includes Kidō spells which are useful for restraining enemies. The user of this spell will issue a hundred bars of energy that are blue semi-white.
The energy bars rain down on your opponent and trap them in a solid surface area, such as a wall or floor of a building. Shuhei Hisagi once performed this spell in his fight against an Arrancar named Findorr Calius.
13. Gochutekkan
Hachigen Ushoda is known as one of the greatest Kidō users in Bleach. He specializes in creating very strong barriers or kekkai. In addition, he mastered the Kido spell which can bind opponents.
An example is the Gochūtekkan spell. When casting the spell, he would summon five chain pillars that could hold the opponent in place. This spell was once used by Ushoda to restrain Ichigo while he was training his Hollow powers.
12. Soren Sokatsui
Soren Sokatsui is a Kidō spell that was shown by Rukia in the fight against Aaroniero. As the name implies, this spell has twice the effect and attack power compared to regular Sōkatsui.
While casting this spell, Rukia creates blue colored energy with her middle and forefinger. After that, she would shoot her fully concentrated energy towards his target.
11. Danku
The next greatest Kidō spell is Danku. This spell is fairly simple and effective in battle. When activated, this spell will produce a very thick and large shield.
The armor is able to block powerful attacks from opponents. For example, Aizen has used this spell to block Tessai's Hado attacks in the past. Apart from that, Byakuya also casts this spell to block Zommari Rureax's hypnotic power.
10. Kyūjūrokkei Kakafūmetsu
Kyūjūrokkei Kakafūmetsu is a Kidō-based seal developed by Kisuke Urahara. This spell was used by Urahara to seal Aizen who began to weaken after being hit by a fatal attack from Ichigo.
When this spell is activated, several red cross-shaped lights will appear from the target's body. After that, the light will slowly merge as a barrier that functions to seal the target's body.
9. Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raihō
Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raiho is a high-level Kidō spell that only Kidō masters can master, an example of which is Tessai. The practitioner of this spell will issue a blue lightning attack through the palm of his hand.
The attack is very massive and capable of producing a large explosion. Tessai has used this spell to attack Aizen in the past. Despite this, Aizen manages to withstand the attack.
8. Shijū no Saimon
Shijū no Saimon is one of the strongest Kidō spells created by Ushoda. This magic spell uses the four layers of Bakudō created by a combination of the spells Ryūbi no Jōmon, Kokō no Jōmon, Kigai no Jōmon, and Hōyoku no Jōmon.
The combination of the four spells produces a barrier that is similar to a prison. Ushoda uses this spell to counter Barragan's Respira technique. In addition, this spell is proven to be able to withstand the explosion produced by Sui-Feng's Jakuho Raikoben.
7. Hakudan Keppeki
Nanao Ise is one of the Shinigami who has a broad understanding of the use of Kidō. As proof, Nanao was able to develop a very complicated Kidō spell called Hakudan Keppeki.
Unlike the usual spells, Hakudan Keppeki is made by utilizing traces of Reiatsu from Quincy. This spell is able to produce a protective wall that Quincy powers cannot penetrate within a certain time limit.
6. Kin & Bankin
Kin & Bankin is a high-level Bakudo spell that can paralyze enemy movements easily. Kin is able to produce cloth made of Reishi and metal tubes that can bind and hold the target's limbs.
Unlike Kin, Bankin has three steps during the activation process. First of all, the cloth that Bankin produces will cover the entire body of the target. After that, the target's body will be pierced by metal bolts until the body is hit by a giant metal cube.
5. Kurohitsugi
Kurohitsugi is an advanced Hadō spell that is very powerful and difficult to master. This spell is able to trap the target in a black chest that is created from spiritual energy.
Besides being useful for trapping opponents, this spell can also kill opponents instantly. So far, only Aizen has been able to cast this spell. With this spell, Aizen mortally wounds Sajin Komamura in battle.
4. Senju Kōten Taihō
Next, there is one of the high-level Hadō spells called Senju Kōten Taihō. When this spell is activated, the user emits some pink colored energy around them.
After that the user will direct that energy to attack the target. The attack effect is capable of producing a very powerful explosion. Urahara once used this spell in his battle against Aizen.
3. Ura Hadō: Sannodō – Teppusatsu
Ura Hadō: Sannodō – Teppusatsu is an extremely powerful Hadō spell belonging to Ichibē Hyōsube. With this spell, he was able to crack the dome of Blut Vene Anhaben created by Ywach.
When activating this spell, the user will perform a cutting motion to create a green dragon-shaped aura. The dragon is capable of issuing very strong wind attacks.
2. Ittō Kasō
The next powerful Kidō spell is Ittō Kasō which is categorized as a forbidden technique. This spell can only be activated by sacrificing the user's body as a catalyst or trigger.
Genryūsei Yamamoto lost his left arm when he used this spell in his battle against Aizen. This spell generated a shockwave and a gigantic red pillar of fire that destroyed all the surrounding buildings in the blink of an eye.
1. Goryūtenmetsu
Goryūtenmetsu is perhaps the most powerful Kidō spell in the story. This spell is considered a forbidden technique because it absorbs the spiritual energy that surrounds the battle area.
This spell is capable of producing an attack in the form of five very powerful dragons. The attack is capable of destroying anything in the battle area. There are only two characters shown capable of using this spell, namely Aizen and Urahara.
