Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai or better known as Anohana, is an anime about friendship with a sad and touching story. It aired in 2011 and ran for 11 episodes.
The story of Anohana focuses on six childhood friends who drift apart after one of them, Menma, dies in a tragic accident. Years later, Menma’s ghost appears to the group's former leader, Jinta, asking him to help her fulfill a forgotten wish so she can move on

1. Meiko Honma
Meiko Honma, usually called Menma, was involved in an accident when she was a child. The accident took Menma's life and left scars on her friends. Menma's death strained the once-close friendship between her friends.
One day, Menma reappears in front of Jinta during the summer. She appears as a ghost and still looks like the cheerful and energetic Menma she once was. Although only Junta can see her, she can still interact with others, such as opening doors, cooking, and even playing games.
Menma doesn't hold a grudge against her friends for their deaths. Furthermore, she has harbored feelings for Jinta for a long time. At the end of the story, she confesses her feelings to Jinta and her desire to become his wife through a letter she wrote him.
2. Jinta Yadomi
Jinta Yadomi, usually called Jintan by Menma used to be a very cheerful child. However, everything changed after the deaths of Menma and her mother. Menma's departure caused their childhood group to disband, and they went their separate ways.
Jintan himself chose to become a hikikomori. He doesn't want to go to school and chooses to shut himself away at home. Furthermore, he still thinks about Menma because he originally liked her, even though he didn't want to admit his feelings.
He believed that the Menma who appeared before him was not a ghost, but rather a hallucination due to his stress. Furthermore, he hesitated to grant Menma's wish for fear of losing her again.
It was also because of Menma that he managed to open up and try to reconnect with the Super Peace Busters.
3. Atsumu Matsuyaki
Atsumu is a member of the Super Peace Busters who hates Jinta. This is because he dislikes the closeness between him and Menma. Atsumu has had a crush on Menma for a long time and becomes anxious whenever her name is mentioned.
Atsumu attends the same high school as Chiriko. Although he is very popular in school, he is still trapped by his past memories with Menma. He even feels despair over Menma's death and blames himself.
He confessed his feelings to Menma before her death. Furthermore, he feels that he should be the one haunted by Menma, not Jinta. Because he loved Menma so much, Atsumu still kept a similar outfit from when she died.
4. Tetsudo Hisakawa
Next, there's Tetsudo Hisakawa, usually called Poppo by his friends. As a child, he greatly admired Jinta and often praised him. He also said that he was very grateful to his friends for accepting him as a member of the Super Peace Busters.
Tetsudo is no longer in school. However, he loves traveling abroad and earning money from side jobs. When he's not abroad, he usually stays at the Super Peace Busters' secret headquarters.
He actually really wants his childhood group to return to the way it was. That's why he immediately believed when Jinta said Menma appeared before him.
5. Naruko Anjou
Naruko is a member of the Super Peace Busters who deeply cares about Jinta's well-being. She has harbored feelings for Jinta for a long time. Unfortunately, she is reluctant to admit it and prefers to act cold when dealing with him.
Naruko is easily influenced by her friends, even though she sometimes dislikes their actions. Furthermore, Naruko admires Menma and is often jealous of her and Jinta's relationship.
Because of this, she was initially skeptical about Menma's return. However, this was simply an excuse Naruko made up, as she felt saddened by Jinta's still-unresolved loss.
6. Chiriko Tsurumi
The last member of Super Peace Busters is Chiriko Tsurumi, a quiet and beautiful girl. She has a calm demeanor and enjoys observing her surroundings.
She and Atsumu remain good friends after the Super Peace Busters disbanded, and they attend the same high school. She harbors feelings for Asumu, but realizes that her feelings are unrequited because Atsumiu still can't forget Menma.
In her free time, Chiriko enjoys sketching. She is also quite cynical towards Naruko and criticizes her habit of following others.
