Return by Death
Return by Death is Subaru's unique ability that allows him to return to a specific point, known as a save point, before his death. This save point changes over time and is beyond his control.
Subaru often uses his Return by Death ability to save those dear to him from danger. However, Subaru experiences immense trauma and mental stress from witnessing the deaths of those he loves repeatedly.
Another interesting aspect of Return by Death is that Subaru cannot tell anyone about his ability. Every time he tries to, he struggles to speak because the Witch Hunter will approach him.
The effect of this causes Subaru's Witch Factor to increase, attracting the attention of a Demon Beast. When he tells Emilia about it, Emilia strangely dies immediately, her heart being destroyed by the Witch.
He is A Good Strategist
With his Return by Death ability, Subaru can predict possible future events. Although the plot sometimes deviates slightly, the overall outline of the series of events is always accurate.
Subaru strives to develop a well-thought-out strategy to prevent future threats or tragedies. He often experiences failure along the way. However, he never gives up until he achieves a happy ending.
He is Close-Range Combatant
Compared to knights or witches, Subaru's strength is indeed weak. However, he is actually quite strong for a human. His martial arts training gives him the ability to fight in close quarters.
Subaru can easily win against street thugs. However, he won't be able to defeat dangerous enemies like Elsa or Petelgeuse without assistance.
Shamak
In addition to his martial arts skills, Subaru is quite skilled at using magic. He possesses Yin, or darkness, elemental magic. He possesses a unique spell called Shamak.
By focusing his magical energy, Subaru can emit a thick, black smoke that can cover a large area. This ability is very useful for escaping enemy threats.
Rental Cave
Unlike the previous magic spells, Rental Cave is a spell Subaru borrowed when he formed a contract with the spirit Ia. Subaru used this spell to defeat Petelgeuse, who had lost control.
After Petelgeuse's body was covered in oil, Subaru immediately fired Rental Cave at Petelgeuse, causing the wizard's body to burst into flames.
Authority of Sloth/Invicible Providence
After Petelgeuse's death, Subaru became the holder of the Witch of Sloth Factor. He is also able to use Petelgeuse's special ability: controlling invisible hands.
With a little help from Echidna, Subaru is able to control this ability and use it in battle. He also calls this ability Invisible Providence.
Minya
After forming a contract with Beatrice, Subaru is able to unleash an interesting attack called Minya. This attack takes the form of a purple mana crystal with high destructive power.
Subaru and Beatrice demonstrated this technique when they fought against a large number of Oousagi. They were able to destroy most of the rabbits without any difficulty.
