Summer Time Rendering is a mystery and supernatural anime adapted from a manga written by Yasuki Tanaka. The anime presents a time travel concept similar to Steins; Gate and Re:Zero.
The anime tells the story of a teenager named Shinpei Ajiro who tries to uncover the truth behind the death of his best friend. During his investigation, he experiences various strange and life-threatening events.
Shinpei must face a supernatural creature known as Kage aka Shadow. This creature has the special ability to imitate the form and memories of other people.
The existence of these Shadows is a big threat to the people in their hometown of Shinpei. Because of this, Shinpei and his friends tried desperately to defeat them.
10. Shidehiko Hishigata
Shidehiko Hishigata is the main enemy that Shinpei must face in the story. He disguises himself as a temple priest named Masahito Karikiri every day. Unexpectedly, the background is very dark.
Shidehiko was the founder of the Hishigata clan who lived hundreds of years ago. Apart from that, he is a shadow-human hybrid. In his monster form, he is very strong and almost impossible to defeat with ordinary methods.
9. Tokiko Hishigata
Next, there is Sou's younger sister named Tokiko Hishigata. She usually appears gentle and speaks politely. However, she apparently knows secrets about her family's relationship with Haine and the shadows.
Tokiko had become an enemy for Shinpei and her friends. After she learned of the shadows' evil plans, she decided to become Shinpei's ally. Uniquely, she is able to control wild shadows in the form of babies under her command.
8. Ryuunosuke Minakata
Ryuunosuke Minakata is Hizuru's younger brother who died after being killed by Haine in the past. When Haine intended to scan Ryuunosuke's shadow, Haine went berserk until Ryuunosuke's shadow then moved to Hizuru's body.
As a result, Ryuunosuke acts as Hizuru's second personality. He always appeared every time he wanted to fight against the shadows. He has super physical strength and is an expert in using weapons, such as guns and hammers.
7. Sou Hishigata
Next, there is Shinpei's good friend named Sou Hishigata. He has a humorous and naive nature. Even so, he is very kind and has high concern for other people.
Sou has a strong determination to fight alongside Shinpei in eradicating the shadows. Apart from that, he also tries to always protect Mio because he has liked Mio for a long time.
6. Ginjirou Nezu
Ginjirou Nezu is one of the main fighters in the Shinpei group. He may be old, but he is very experienced in handling weapons. He used to help Hizuru in hunting shadows.
Nezu specializes as a sniper. He is able to shoot targets from a distance. In addition, he usually uses a spike gun when fighting shadows at close range.
5. Haine
Haine alias Hiruko is a figure who is considered a god on the island. Additionally, she is considered the mother of the shadows. Even though her appearance looks like an innocent girl, her existence is very dangerous.
Haine has a plan to eat everyone on the island and turn them into shadows. Despite this, her plan does not go smoothly because Shinpei tries his best to stop her.
4. Mio Kofune
Next, there is Ushio's younger sister named Mio Kofune. She has a quite shy nature and likes to be nervous when speaking in front of Shinpei. Even though she often smiles, she basically hates her nature like that.
Mio also feels less confident when compared to her older sister who has many advantages. She had the courage to confess her feelings to Shinpei, but she realized that Shinpei only loved Ushio.
3. Hizuru Minakata
The next most interesting character is Hizuru Minakata. She is a horror and mystery writer with the pen name Nagumo Ryuunosuke. He has a cold nature and rarely smiles at other people.
Even so, Hizuru is very intelligent and clever in formulating strategies. In addition, she is very brave and is not afraid to risk her life to finish off the shadows. She became a very valuable comrade for Shinpei.
2. Shinpei Ajiro
In second place, there is Shinpei Ajiro who is the main MC in Summer Time Rendering. He has a kind nature, likes to help others, and is brave. He has the unique power to go back in time.
Shinpei uses this ability to change a bleak future so he can get a happy ending. Even though he failed and was killed many times, he still stood tall until he was able to eradicate the threat of the shadows.
Shinpei has a very strong relationship with Ushio. They have a strong synergy because they love each other. When they are together, they are able to face all the obstacles in front of them.
1. Ushio Kofune
Ushio Kofune is the main heroine who plays an important role in the story. At the beginning of the story, she is told that she drowned after saving a little girl. However, her death turned out to be related to the shadow plague.
Even though the real Ushio is dead, Ushio's shadow still exists in the real world. She has the exact same personality and behavior as Shinpei. Apart from that, she helped Shinpei in fighting Haine and other shadows.
The shadow of Ushio has various super abilities, such as copying an object's data to manipulating her long hair. Her hair is like a sharp sword and can cut targets easily.
