All Hunter Types in Hunter x Hunter, Explained

In Hunter x Hunter, Hunters generally have a passion or obsession for hunting something that interests them, such as treasure, wild beast, or criminals. Because of this, there are many types of Hunters, each specializing in their own field.

Most Hunter types that appear in Hunter x Hunter are only briefly mentioned, so their activities or work details are not fully explored.

Okay, without further ado, let's get straight to the point!

Rookie

Rookie is the term for a Hunter who has not yet decided on their hunting field or specialty. The term "Rookie" was first used in Hunter x Hunter chapter 346, specifically when Leorio appeared at the election of the new Hunter Association chairman.

Besides Leorio, Gon and Killua can also be categorized as Rookies because they have not yet decided on their hunting specialty as professional Hunters.

Gourmet Hunter

Next, there is the Gourmet Hunter, who enjoys traveling around the world to hunt for rare and exotic ingredients. This type of Hunter has a very deep understanding of the culinary world. 

Furthermore, they possess culinary skills and a keen eye for food. Examples of Gourmet Hunters appearing in the story are Menchi and Buhara. They both served as examiners in the Second Phase of the Hunter Exam.

Beast Hunter

The next type of Hunter is the Beast Hunter. These Hunters specialize in hunting wild animals. Uniquely, there are two sub-categories of Beast Hunter: Fantastic Beast Hunter and Unidentified Beast Hunter.

Fantastic Beast Hunter focuses on searching for animals that have not been scientifically documented, while Unidentified Beast Hunter focuses on hunting creatures whose existence is questionable, such as legendary beasts from folklore.

There are three known Beast Hunters in the story: Knuckle Bine, Pokkle, and Shoot McMahon.

Ruins Hunter

Ruins Hunters focus on finding ruins, restoring, and preserving them. The most famous example of a Ruins Hunter is Ging Freecs.

Furthermore, the Hunter Exam examiner, Satotz, is also a Ruins Hunter. He was impressed and inspired by Ging's track record in restoring ancient ruins.

Treasure Hunter

Next, there are Treasure Hunters who focus on finding treasure or valuable objects. An example of a Hunter who focuses on this profession is the Zodiac member named Kanzai.

Blacklist/Bounty Hunter

Blacklist/Bounty Hunters are Hunters whose goal is to hunt down dangerous criminals with bounties. This type of Hunter specializes in tracking these criminals.

One example of a Blacklist Hunter is Kurapika, who is obsessed with hunting down the Genei Ryodan. Additionally, there are several Hunters who work in this field, such as Bushidora Ambitious, Binolt, and Saiyu.

Crime Hunter

The next type of Hunter is the Crime Hunter. While Blacklist Hunters focus solely on hunting criminals with bounties, Crime Hunters' scope of work appears to be broader and involves general crime cases.

The only known Crime Hunter in the story is Mizaistom Nana. She possesses detective skills and appears to also monitor criminal cases and the illegal activities of underworld mafias.

Terrorist Hunter

Like Blacklist Hunters and Crime Hunters, Terrorist Hunters are also connected to the criminal underworld. As the name suggests, this type of Hunter focuses on hunting terrorists whose existence could threaten a nation.

Furthermore, Terrorist Hunters have the ability to devise measures to prevent terrorist attacks. Botobai Gigante is the only known Terrorist Hunter in the story.

Music Hunter

The next type of Hunter is the Music Hunter. These Hunters specialize in the world of music, such as hunting rare musical instruments.

For example, Senritsu, also known as Melody, is obsessed with destroying the music of Yami no Sonata, which can bring disaster to anyone who hears it.

Jackpot Hunter

The next type of Hunter is the Jackpot Hunter. These Hunters are primarily focused on making money. They seem to do business with wealthy individuals or conglomerates and enter into contracts with them.

For example, Tsezguerra is a player on Greed Island and is obsessed with completing the game.

Sea Hunter

Next, there are Sea Hunters, whose work is related to the ocean. This type of Hunter seems to hunt anything in the sea, such as sea animals, sea plants, and the interesting and mysterious things there.

The only Sea Hunter known in the story is Morel Mackernasey. Interestingly, his work as a Sea Hunter gives Morel strong lungs due to his habit of diving underwater.

Disease & Virus Hunter

Next, there are Disease Hunters, who focus on hunting dangerous diseases. Furthermore, these Hunters can research and create medicines/medical procedures that can cure these diseases. An example of a Disease Hunter is Cheadle Yorkshire.

Furthermore, there are Virus Hunters, whose work seems to be related to Disease Hunters, but they focus on hunting dangerous viruses. An example of a Virus Hunter is Sanbica Norton.

Another interesting fact about Disease and Virus Hunters is that they generally possess medical skills.

Botanical Hunter

The next type of Hunter is the Botanical Hunter. As the name suggests, this Hunter specializes in botany, focusing on hunting and collecting various types of plants, especially rare species.

An example of a Botanical Hunter appearing in the story is the Zodiac member named Cluck. He now plays a crucial role in the Flora/Fauna Division during the expedition to the Dark Continent.

Cute Hunter

Compared to previous Hunters, the Cute Hunter is perhaps the most unusual. This type of Hunter seems to be attracted to cute and beautiful things.

An example of a Cute Hunter known in the story is Cutie Beauty. She is described as leading a society for "beautiful and young" people.

Hacker Hunter

The next type of Hunter is the Hacker Hunter. This type of Hunter possesses extensive knowledge of computers, programming, and the internet. Furthermore, this Hunter often deals with cybercrime.

There is one known Hacker Hunter in the story, Ickshonpe Katocha.

Paleograph Hunter

Next, there are Paleograph Hunters, who specialize in studying and translating ancient languages. A Zodiac member named Pyon is a Paleograph Hunter.

During the expedition to the Dark Continent, Pyon interestingly plays a key role in the Intelligence division. One of the team's main tasks is to create language analysis software in case they come into contact with the inhabitants of the Dark Continent.

Poacher Hunter

Then, there are Poacher Hunters. This type of Hunter focuses on hunting down poachers or illegal hunters. Poacher Hunters appear to have a keen understanding of the fauna and strive to protect endangered animals from poachers to prevent their extinction.

The only known Poacher Hunter in the story is a Zodiac member named Ginta. During the expedition to the Dark Continent, he served in the Flora/Fauna division.

Head Hunter

Next, there are Head Hunters, who specialize in discovering and training talent. Teradein Neutral is the only known Head Hunter in the story. He specializes in Human Resources.

Lost Hunter

A Lost Hunter is a type of Hunter who specializes in tracking and finding people who have lost contact. The only known Lost Hunter in the story is Loupe Highland.

Poison Hunter

Next, there are Poison Hunters, who specialize in hunting various types of poisons in the world. Furthermore, these Hunters also seem to be able to process poisons for use in the pharmaceutical/medical world.

A Hunter known to specialize in this field is a Zodiac member named Gel.

Problem Hunter

This type of Hunter is quite confusing. Problem Hunter, literally translated, means "problem hunter." This type of Hunter seems to enjoy seeking out people with specific problems and providing solutions to those problems.

The only known Problem Hunter in the story is a Zodiac member named Sacco Kobayakawa.

Temp Hunter

Temp Hunters are a relatively simple type of Hunter. These Hunters can be considered like dogs for the Hunter Association. They can be contracted by the Hunter Association to perform specific jobs at the request of clients, whether government or private businesses.

Temp Hunters receive pay commensurate with the level of difficulty and risk they face. Despite this, those who become Temp Hunters are often looked down upon by other Hunters.

Provisional Hunter

In closing, there are Provisional Hunters who receive Hunter licenses temporarily. They are Kakin's bodyguards who have passed Kurapika's selection test.

Their presence is needed to assist the Hunter Association team during the expedition to the Dark Continent. Once the expedition ends, their Provisional Hunter licenses will no longer be valid.
