10 Best Characters in Doraemon, Explained

Doraemon is one of the most popular and beloved anime and manga characters in the world. Created by the manga duo Fujiko F. Fujio, Doraemon first appeared in 1969 and quickly became a cultural icon. 

He is a blue robotic cat sent from the 22nd century to help a young boy named Nobita Nobi improve his future. With his friendly personality and unique gadgets, Doraemon has entertained generations of fans.

One of Doraemon's most famous features is his four-dimensional pocket, which contains countless futuristic gadgets. However, Nobita often misuses these gadgets, leading to humorous and unexpected situations. 

Besides focusing on Nobita and Doraemon, the series also features engaging supporting characters. They interact with Doraemon and Nobita regularly and bring excitement to their daily lives.

1. Doraemon

Who doesn't know Doraemon? 

Yes, he's a robot cat from the 22nd century who possesses a magic pocket that can pull out sophisticated objects. 

Doraemon was sent by Sewashi, Nobita's descendant, to help Nobita, who often complained and experienced difficult times.

When he was first created, Doraemon was actually yellow and had ears like a normal cat. However, his ears were bitten off by a robot mouse, leaving him depressed and traumatized by mice. 

To regrow his ears, Doraemon used a special liquid, but the liquid was a mistake and instead caused Doraemon's paint to fade, returning him to his original blue color.

In this series, Doraemon always helps Nobita with his sophisticated gadgets. These include Bamboo Copter, Anywhere Door, and many other equally unique gadgets. Furthermore, Doraemon also loves Dorayaki.

2. Nobita Nobi

Nobita is the main character in Doraemon. He is described as a whiny and gloomy child. He is still in fourth grade. 

Unfortunately, Nobita is a lazy, stupid student, is often late to school, and rarely does his homework. Furthermore, he always gets bad grades on tests.

To make matters worse, Nobita is often bullied by Gian and Suneo. Fortunately, Nobita is always helped by Doraemon. 

However, Nobita once had dreams, such as becoming a pilot, a teacher, or a ninja, but these dreams always changed. In the story, Nobita also has a crush on a girl named Shizuka.

3. Takeshi Goda

Takeshi Goda, usually called Gian, is He antagonist character in DoraemonGian has a large stature and an arrogant attitude. 

Because of this, he is feared by the children in his neighborhood. One of the children who is often bullied by Gian is Nobita.

He also often asks Nobita to join his baseball team when they lack a team. Although Gian appears intimidating, underneath he is actually afraid of his mother.

Gian also has a passionate for singing  even though his voice is very worst. He likes to singing in the park. That looks funny because no one care about his singing, except Suneo, who is afraid of Gian.

4. Suneo Honekawa

Next, there's Suneo Honekawa, who is Gian's partner in bullying Nobita. He comes from a wealthy family and often flaunts his wealth to his friends. 

Furthermore, he is often forced by Gian to bully Nobita, even though Suneo doesn't like it either. He actually dislikes Gian.

Suneo's hobbies include playing with remote controls, collecting stamps and antiques, and taking panoramic photos. 

He is also quite narcissistic and often examines himself in the mirror and claims to be the most handsome person in the world. Besides that, Suneo also aspires to become a talented designer.

5. Shizuka Minamoto

Shizuka is a sweet girl who is liked by Nobita. She is beautiful and intelligent, a stark contrast to Nobita's dimwittedness.

Furthermore, Shizuka shares a close relationship with Dekisugi, who is equally intelligent. This often makes Nobita envious and jealous.

Shizuka's hobbies include soaking in warm water and playing the violin, although she isn't very good at it. She also takes piano lessons, although she dislikes it. 

She also aspires to become a flight attendant. In the story, Shizuka often defends Nobita when he is bullied by Gian and Suneo.

6. Dorami

Doraemon has a sister named Dorami that also  comes from the future. She is made from oil from the same can as Doraemon. 

The difference is that Dorami is two years younger than Doraemon and more intelligent. Furthermore, she also has ears and his body is yellow.

Compared to Doraemon, Dorami is a more advanced robot. She can generate 10,000 horsepower, while Doraemon can only generate 129.3 horsepower. Dorami often visits Nobita and Doraemon in the 20th century when she is on vacation or in trouble.

7. Hidetoshi Dekisugi

Next, there's Nobita's romantic rival, Hidetoshi Dekisugi. Nobita is often jealous of him because he often helps Shizuka with her homework. 

Out of jealousy, Nobita often asks Doraemon for help in creating a device that can separate Shizuka from Dekisugi.

Dekisugi is also the smartest student in his school and always gets perfect grades. Furthermore, Dekisugi often helps Nobita whenever Nobita asks about philosophical or scientific matters.

8. Nobisuke Nobi

Next, there's Nobita's father, Nobisuke Nobi. He is a kind and patient office worker. He once aspired to be a painter and once studied with a great painter. 

Nobisuke enjoys playing golf and often smokes and drinks alcohol. He often comes home drunk.

Nobisuke always hoped that Nobita would grow up to be a smart and successful child, unlike himself, who was merely a clerk. 

To support this, Nobisuke always gave Nobita encyclopedias, even though they ended up being displayed because Nobita never read them.

9. Tamako Nobi

Tamako Nobi is Nobita's caring mother. Like most mothers, she was known for being strict and often scolded the unruly Nobita, especially when Nobita got bad grades in school. 

She raised Nobita very strictly and always ordered him to do his homework. Unfortunately, Nobita was very rebellious, which often disappointed her.

10. Sensei

Finally, there is Sensei,  the teacher of Nobita and his friends who taught his class. He often punished Nobita by having to stand in the hallway. 

Not only that, he also often punished the naughty Gian. Interestingly, he even considered Suneo his golden child. Nobita's teacher often makes surprise visits to the students' homes. 

When he visits, he often informs Nobita about his poor grades. He also frequently advises Nobita to study harder when he passes him on the street.
